CRAFTS, pottery
CRAFTS, pottery Producing pottery is a deep-rooted craft (of Iberian and Muslim origin) in some villages in Terres de l’Ebre like Miravet (Ribera d’Ebre), Tivenys (Baix Ebre) and La Galera (Montsià). In fact, at the end of the 20th century there were some twenty potters making earthenware jugs, plant-pots, jugs and kitchen utensils. Today, although this profession is much diminished from what it was, it is still alive.

In La Galera, where some potters live, a Pottery Fair is held every year and there's also an Interpretation Centre to visit. Tivenys organizes a Craft and Tourism Fair with special emphasis on ceramics. According to some sources, there were 20 factories producing ceramics in 1845, making it the most important industry in the area.

Enthusiasts of pottery can also visit the Ceramics Museum in L’Ametlla de Mar (Baix Ebre), where you can see one of the most popular and most important ceramic collections in the world, with some 6,500 pieces from all corners of the earth.
