FESTIVALS RECREATING HISTORY
Going back in time to distant eras and discovering how the Iberians, Romans, Saracens, Jews and Christians lived, is a thrilling adventure. That is why different villages in Terres de l'Ebre commemorate the splendour of their past by celebrating with mediaeval markets and festivals which recreate history.

The Renaissance Festival in Tortosa – declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest and a Local Festival of Tourist Interest in Catalonia – Móra Morisca in Móra d'Ebre, the Iberian market in Alcanar and the mediaeval markets in Ulldecona and Batea take you back to a distant past. These festivals attract millions of tourists each year, and furthermore they encourage social and cultural activities which have become a central feature, from which lots of organizations from these regions of south Catalonia have developed. History and culture, to make you more aware of the past in Terres de l'Ebre.

The aim of festivals which recreate history in villages throughout Terres de l'Ebre, is to make people more aware of and motivated by history. For a few days, the streets, squares and most important buildings in places like Tortosa, Miravet and Móra d’Ebre are filled with theatrical and musical performances which take you back in time. These festivals combine a wide variety of recreational and cultural activities for the old and the young, so that you can discover what Renaissance Tortosa was like, how Miravet Castle was conquered, or what daily life consisted of for Muslims who lived in Móra d'Ebre during the 9th century.
