Castles and walled sites
In these regions we can also find one of the most important walled sites in the whole of Catalonia. With the development of sieges and the need to be defended, an immense framework of walls was built to surround the city of Tortosa (Baix Ebre). A collection of fortifications from different eras served as accommodation for the soldiers and peasants needing refuge in times of war. A tour of all of these places makes a fascinating way to understand part of the history of Terres de l’Ebre. If you want to find out more about Amposta, one place you must visit is the Castle
