FAMOUS PEOPLE
FAMOUS PEOPLE"A slight breeze blew from the seaside, it swang over their heads the wide fig leaves with a warm whisper and invaded the paddies, creating fleeing and quick waves".

The landscapes of Terres de l'Ebre have inspired literary fragments like the one you have just read, from the novel "Terres de l'Ebre" by Sebastià Juan Arbó (Sant Carles de la Ràpita 1902 - Barcelona 1984). Artur Bladé (Benissanet 1907 - Barcelona 1995) and Jesús Moncada (Mequinensa 1941 - Barcelona 2005) are other great writers who have nourished of the spaces of Terres de l'Ebre to write their stories. Several literary routes are articulated around them because most of their writings are magnificent guides to travel and know the spaces of the regions of the Ebro.

Beyond the literary area, one of the best-known people related to this territory was painter Pablo Picasso (Málaga 1881 - Mouguins 1973). His short but intense stays in Horta de Sant Joan (Terra Alta) signalled the beginning of cubism and it became a new start in the development of the pictorial avant-garde of the 20thcentury. In Horta de Sant Joan we can visit the Centre Picasso, where there are facsimile reproductions of the paintings he painted in the village. Furthermore, around the village we can find the sites which inspired the artist.

On the other hand, the celebration of the second centenary of the birth of brave soldier Ramon Cabrera (Tortosa 1806 - Wentworth 1877) in 2006 signalled the importance of this personality, exalted and hated depending on people's ideology. Cabrera, known as Maestrat Tiger was one of the leaders of the carlist revolution in Terres de l'Ebre and in the Valencian regions of Els Ports and Maestrat. His biography can help to understand the history of our territory. Penetrating into the most southern villages of the massif of Els Ports is a good way to know this legacy.
