TRADITIONAL FESTIVITIES

Traditional festivities in Terres de l’Ebre are testimony to the passion of their folklore and long-standing traditions. One of the central elements of Main Annual Festivals is bull-runs, and another main feature is “Jota” songs. Furthermore, music bands, which have developed from what used to be military formations, created by a flow of Valencian workers at the beginning of the twentieth century, have established a prolific musical culture which is unique to Catalonia. Moving away from Annual Festivals, other interesting kinds of festivities take place, such as rice planting, weeding and reaping in Deltebre. These activities are celebrated with the aim of recreating the manual work carried out by country folk in the past, which died out with the arrival of the agricultural mechanization process.
