Many of the traditional festivals in Terres de l’Ebre are linked to religious matters. This can easily be seen by looking at the festive calendar for these regions in the south of Catalonia. During Easter week, village streets are filled with worshippers and onlookers wanting to see the processions. At the same time, Ulldecona Town Theatre begins its annual performances of The Passion of Christ.

RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS

For the Corpus festival, many villages adorn the streets with spectacular carpets of flowers, and for the Mare de Déu del Carme, the patron saint of fishermen, most fishermen from the area organize boat processions displaying the image of the virgin. Finally, during the summer months, there are patron saint festivals where almost ancestral-like rituals take place, and year after year, they fill the Terres de l’Ebre festive calendar with fervour, emotion and happiness.
