Gastronomic festivities
To recover the meaning of a party, which in the old days meant nothing without a good plate of food on the table with the whole family sitting around it, the villages in this area have gone back in time, thanks to gastronomic celebrations which all have one product as their main feature. Throughout the specified day, all of the neighbours in each town get together and organize activities where one ingredient is given priority.
So, we come across special celebrations like the Vi (wine) i la Clotxa in Gandesa, which has recovered a recipe belonging to the area; l’Aplec de la Mel (honey) celebrated in El Perelló, which centres on the properties of its most important product; and the Festa de la Verema, where Corbera d’Ebre takes a step back in history, making this activity a real celebration for the younger ones to learn about and for the older ones to remember.
Gastronomic workshops
Cooking and making food follows certain recipes which are identifying features of each region. Ingredients and tradition which give every dish its own special characteristic, play key roles in certain months of the year, thanks to these workshops dedicated to gastronomy, which are celebrated in many villages in the Ebre region.
Workshops dedicated to cooking rice, a traditional stew or cuisine with olive oil, among others, keep culinary customs alive and give credit to the products which are given to us by the earth. For some days the catering sector in these regions displays not only how our grandparents cooked but also the most advanced sophistication in food. All of this, not to mention the main feature of each gastronomic feat, which has been characteristic of each village for so long.
