QUALITY PRODUCTS, wine from Terra Alta
Vineyards are scattered throughout the valleys of Terra Alta. The contrasting climate, excellent sunshine and limestone earth of the Ebre region is ideal for growing vines and produces high quality wine. White wine with body and high alcohol content, red wine with personality and mature, liqueur-like wines of international renown are produced, and have been recognized with the Terra Alta Designation of Origin.
Growing vines and producing good wine was and is one of the driving economic factors in Terres de l'Ebre. It is testimony to Modernist cellars which were built at the beginning of the last century in some of the villages in the region. Farmers and wine-growers joined forces to build these stately buildings which were popularly known as “wine cathedrals”. In Gandesa and Pinell de Brai there are some magnifient examples.
