NATURAL AREAS, Gorges

The rugged orography, typical of interior areas of Terres de l’Ebre, combined with customary intense rainfall during the autumn and spring, have both contributed to the formation of gorges. Although they are dry for most of the year, they are highly important biological passageways. La Galera gorge in the Montsià region and Sant Antoni gorge in Ribera d’Ebre, are excellent examples of ravines which have been formed by water erosion. In some of them it is possible to go canyoning, as in Canaletes River and Vall Figuera gorge, which are both situated in Els Ports National Park.
