Miravet. The old village

add to planner

The old village of Miravet is situated on top of rocks overlooking the Ebre River, at the foot of the impressive Templar castle, which crowns the whole village. Numerous porches and some typical houses with attics and bamboo structures, have been preserved along its steep, narrow alleys. You can also visit the last river shipyard on the Ebre River, and the mediaeval Varnish mill. Also, the old Moorish Mosque is a must, as well as the old Renaissance style Church. Facing these two buildings is La Sanqueta viewpoint, which has a magnificent panoramic view of the Ebre River and the vegetable gardens around it. If you visit the old village of Miravet then you should also take a walk around the Templar castle. It is one of the biggest fortifications in Catalonia and one of the best examples of Romanesque, religious and military architecture of the Order of the Temple.

Ceramics has been a longlasting tradition here, and has seduced visitors arriving at this village for centuries, as you will see if you visit one of the seven workshops. Finally, your trip to Miravet can be complemented by a visit to the "Pas de barca", a river ferry which uses the strength of the water to cross the Ebre River.
