Towns along the part of the river where sailing is possible include —Amposta, Tortosa, Bitem, Xerta, Benifallet, Miravet, Ginestar, Benissanet, Móra d’Ebre and Móra la Nova— and at each of these there are wharfs with ramps for unloading boats.
One physical barrier when sailing down the river is the Assut de Xerta dam, an ancient feat of engineering - possibly of Muslim origin - from which canals go to the right and left of the Ebre. The dam is supervised by specialized personnel, and sailors should follow any orders given by them. You can pass through between 10am and 7pm, from 11th April to 31st October.
