Canal Vell, Ebre Delta National Park

This is the biggest lagoon in the north of the Delta. There is a private watchtower where you can observe the fauna living in the area. Lots of different types of birds nest here, including the wild duck. Until the end of the seventies, it was the largest lagoon on the whole Delta, but rice fields have reduced its size considerably. Between October and May, fishermen from Sant Pere Fishermen's Guild in Sant Carles de la Ràpita use traditional fishing methods here: trammel, ganguil and palangre (fishing with hooks).
