The Beech trees at Els Ports

The existence of Beech trees in Els Ports massif is rather surprising as they are typically found in colder, more humid climates. That's why they are geographically at their most extreme point, and therefore, the most southern in Europe. This makes the beech trees in Els Ports extremely special, and with very different, specific features from the rest of the European beech trees. They are always found on the slope facing the north because it is the most humid, and near the bottom of ravines. These beeches then, are to be found on steep slopes, whereas the typical beech grows in flat areas.
