CYCLING on the Ebre Delta

The orography of the Ebre Delta is completely flat making it a perfect place for cycling. There are different routes in the National Park covering the most important parts of this marshland area.

The first route is 26km long and starts at La Casa de Fusta; it goes along rural paths and regional roads which border the Encanyissada and Tancada reservoirs. The second one starts at the Eco-museum, in Deltebre, and passes Canal Vell, Garxal beach and goes along the banks of the Ebre River.

A third route has also been designed so that you can get to know Garxal at first hand. It is a group of small islands and lagoons, where a great variety of waterfowl can be seen. This route is easy to follow on your own as there are informational panels along the way, and from the scenic viewpoint you get a wonderful, panoramic view of the marshes.

There is also a route for cyclists, which goes around La Bassa de les Olles, the smallest lagoon on the Ebre Delta. This route borders the whole lagoon, from l’Arenal beach in L’Ampolla to Gola de la Bassa and Goleró beach. On the way, there are 3 viewpoints from where you can observe the great variety of birds living at the lagoon.

Don't forget your helmet or binoculars before starting this route; in fact binoculars are especially important because they will make it easier to observe birds and flora from the viewpoints on your journey. During spring, summer and the beginning of autumn, it is advisable to take sun-cream and a mosquito repellent.
