CYCLING, the Green Way in Terres de l’Ebre
la Via VerdaThe Green Way in Terres de l'Ebre is a tourist-cultural proposal for those who enjoy cycling. It is a cycling itinerary, but you can also walk or ride a horse. It follows the ancient tracing of the railway line that joined La Puebla de Híjar (in Aragon) with Tortosa. The itinerary, which crosses the regions of Terra Alta and Baix Ebre, has been adapted to cycling (arrangement of the soil) and signalled. It borders on the western side of the massif Els Ports and the Canaletes riverside up to the Ebro. The scenery is spectacular and there are 41 tunnels, some of them quite long (up to 750 m).

The route starts at the ancient Lledó-Arnes railway station. There we find the start of a way that goes up to Horta de Sant Joan that borders the Santa Barbara mountain, with the convent of Sant Salvador at the bottom. Soon afterwards we enter Bot and we begin progressively to lose height before entering the beautiful Valley of the Canaletes river. We go by the ancient railway station in Prat de Compte, placed just a few kilometres from the Hermitage of La Fontcalda, on the left riverside of the Canaletes river. Very near the valley is expanding and we see different landscape, while we start crossing the Serres de Pàndols and Cavalls. We go by El Pinell de Brai and enter the region of Baix Ebre. The itinerary ends in a path that borders on the Ebro river and the C-12 (regional road). After Xerta, the itinerary placidly goes on between orchards and fruit trees up to Aldover. From there we get to EMD Jesús, before arriving in Roquetes and Tortosa.
