The tradition for trekking which was introduced into Catalonia during the Renaissance period, has really taken off in Terres de l'Ebre, probably due to the presence of the Els Ports Massif. As outings in the mountains started to lose their productive or commercial character, trekking and hiking became synonyms of walking for pleasure, for discovering the area and for getting direct contact with nature. Those with a curious nature, who are attracted by sport, local history and the environment, will find lots of different paths to follow through Terres de l'Ebre, because Els Ports Massif, the Ebre Delta, La Serra del Montsià and the cliffs bordering the coast offer thousands of possibilities for walkers to enjoy themselves.
