Tortosa Fish Market was built in the middle of the fourteenth century, on the left bank of the Ebre River, near the present-day Pau square, where the town market is. At first, it was used as a deposit for goods, but it soon became a place where business and hiring employees took place, as well as being representational for the importance of commerce in the city. By the middle of the seventeenth century, part of the building was used for storing military weapons and armour and then, finally, in 1716 it was no longer used for business at all. In 1933, the Fish Market was moved stone by stone to the modernist Gardens of Teodor González Park, and it is still possible to pay a visit.
