The Tortosa Cathedral Museum is a magnificent place to enjoy the religious art which has been collected there for over nine centuries. This is a collection of 200 objects including paintings, sculptures, tapestries, precious metals and codex, which date back to the 12th century. Although some of the most valuable pieces disappeared during the Spanish Civil War (such as several liturgical objects related to Papa Luna (Pope Luna) or the reliquary of the Mare de Déu de la Cinta). There are some very important objects in the museum, among which, a set of 16th century choir chairs -the biggest Renaissance piece of its kind, and one of the best preserved in Catalonia-, a 12th century "missal" of Saint Ruf , a 15th century Transfiguration altarpiece, a 15th century Flemish tapestry of the Last Supper, and a 17th century ivory Christ. There is also a 6th century trilingual gravestone - written in Latin, Greek and Hebrew - and a magnificent collection of codices. Moreover, this exhibition makes it possible to visit different areas of the Tortosa cathedral, for example, the palace which belonged to the bishop, the senior prior's palace, the priest's dining-room, the bedroom, the cloister and a part of the cathedral's underground passageways.
