Els Ports Massif stands out for its varied landscapes: pine and oak forests, fields of crops, mountain peaks, high plateaus, etc. Hikers who are interested in getting to know all of these different areas can follow the Stars of the South trail, which borders the Massif. It is a truly fantastic trail which is similar to other famous trekking trails in other mountains, such as Carros de Foc in the Central Pyrenees.

This route of almost 100 km which is sign-posted with blue stars, is divided into five stages, and can be started from any of the five base points along the route. Each hiker has to get his or her card stamped at each stop, and in this way, at the end of the trail he or she will obtain a Star of the South T-shirt.

The five stages of he t¡route are as follows:

1. Refugi de Caro (Caro Refuge) – Paüls. (Baix Ebre) 21,2 km
2. Paüls – Arnes. (Baix Ebre – Terra Alta) 20km
3. Arnes – Beseit. (Terra Alta – Matarranya) 21 km
4. Beseit – Refugi de Font Farrera (Font Farrera Refuge). (Matarranya – Montsià) 18 km
5. Refugi de Font Farrera (Font Farrera Refuge) – Caro. (Montsià – Baix Ebre) 18 km
