THE WINE ROUTE
THE WINE ROUTE The weather and limestone soil in the Terra Alta region, is ideal for growing vines and producing top quality wine. They make white wines with body and high alcohol content, red wines with lots of personality, and aged wines and spirits of international acclaim, which have been recognized with the Terra Alta Designation of Origin. The Wine Route covers the main wine producing areas in the region, as well as offering panoramic views and the chance to see Modernist buildings, so that you can get to know a bit more about the Terres de l'Ebre region.

THE WINE ROUTEThis route begins in the magnificent Modernist Cellar in Gandesa, which is the headquarters of the agricultural co-operative and the Regulating Council building for the Terra Alta Designation of Origin. It continues towards Corbera d’Ebre and Vilalba dels Arcs through Canyelles valley, where you will see the dry-stone walls marking boundaries with slopes and terraces. The economic strength of Vilalba dels Arcs lies in its wine culture, with a deep-rooted spirit of co-operativism and family vineyards. Nearby, is Pobla de Massaluca, which is linked to the village of Batea by means of a track which goes through a place called Massalocà, with its wonderful viewpoint and open-air sculptures with a panoramic backdrop of vineyards.

THE WINE ROUTEOnce you leave Batea, which has the largest area of vineyards in the region, take the path going towards Caseres where Planes d’Almudèfer viewpoint is located at the top of an impressive valley covered with vineyards. Then follow the N-420 road towards Gandesa, and turn off onto a regional road towards Bot, where vineyards cover the numerous valleys along the horizon. Take the C-43 road towards Tortosa and you will see Pinell de Brai, where the route finishes. Here, you can visit the co-operative Modernist cellar by architect Cèsar Martinell, and look at the glazed ceramic frieze on the main façade and also buy a bottle of wine with Terra Alta Designation of Origin.
