La ruta dels templers

The Knights Templar were founded in the XI century, after the First Crusade, with the target to protect the pilgrims to Holy Land. In Catalonia, the templars conquered strategic towns like Tortosa and Miravet. Now, the mark Domus Templi (the Templar domains) articulates the Templar route, in order to offer the visitor the chance of knowing the architectural patrimony and the history of the Templar knights in the territories of the ancient Crown of Aragon, which used to agglutinate the current territories: Aragon, Catalonia and País Valencià. This way in addition to the towns of Tortosa and Miravet (Terres de l'Ebre) the route also includes the town of Lleida (Catalonia), Peníscola (País Valencià) and Monzón ( in Aragon). As for Terres de l'Ebre, the Miravet Castle is situated on top of a hill near this village in Ribera d'Ebre; and the Castle of la Suda in Tortosa is situated at a strategic place to control the ships. In these territories the templars also controlled small castles, warchtowers and country-houses that still preserve the trace the Templar Knights left.
