REGIONS, Terra Alta

Terra Alta is situated to the north of the rugged mountains of Els Ports Massif and comprises a magnificent high plateau where Pàndols and Cavalls mountain ranges rise majestically; places which are truly full of history.

There is a predominance of almond and hazelnut trees in areas which can be farmed, however, there are also vineyards producing wine with worldwide renown. One of the most famous olive oils in Catalonia is made with olives from the olive groves here. As there is so much agriculture in this area, it is the least industrialized  of the four Ebre regions, and perhaps because of this, there are still so many virgin landscapes and unspoilt villages which have managed to preserve the charm of days gone by. The Terra Alta region, includes 12 towns, with Gandesa as the capital, and there are around 13,000 inhabitants in total.
